The Mundo Maya

I'm Joe. I have an interest in all things Maya in particular and the advent of civilization in Meso-America in general. I would like to share what I've learned with everyone who shares my interests.

  1. It's been ten years or so since Caral made it's big news. What have we learned since? There is smething fishy about a desrt culture that eats fish. Did they really use drugs freely? aphrodesiacs? Were they really a peaceloving mercantile group? Sounds a lot like the description of the Maya that was prevalent in my youth (a LONG time ago). I wonder......

  2. Everybody who goes to the Ycatan gets to see Chichen Itza and/or Tulum (Zama). Any one interested in a small guided tour to Yachitlan and Bonampak? I've been talking to a guy in Cancun who can set it up for me. Small groups. Ten or fifteen passenger vans.

  3. Today I visited a Facebook page called Mesoamerica.

Their primary concern seems to be improving the health and wellbeing of the indigenous population. I think raising awareness and shifting the paradigm contribute to that goal.

This is one of only two places in antiquity where the concept of “ZERO” evolved.

  4. I recently read an article describing the use of LIDAR to map Caracol, a site in Belize. If you share my interest, you might like to have a look at it. I suspect it will revolutionise a few Archaeological digs....... e
